Insurance

The host family needs to ensure that sufficient health insurance, accident insurance and third-party insurance coverage is available for the au pair. In many countries the host family has to take out such insurance for the au pair. In some countries the host family can declare the au pair to the national health service or to a similar organisation so that the au pair can receive insurance benefits in the event that he/she is ill. However, this depends on the regulations of the individual host country.

If the au pair needs a visa to travel to the host country, we also recommend to conclude an insurance to cover potential expulsion costs. Background: The fact that you invite an au pair to come to the country binds you to pay for all costs which might be caused by the au pair. If the au pair was expelled from the country for whatever reason, you would have to pay for these costs. The insurance to cover potential expulsion costs saves you from these costs. Thus you can really enjoy the event of welcoming an au pair in your family.

Currently an au pair insurance normally costs about 23 to 49 euro per month. For further information about au pair insurance in Germany and Austria we recommend a Google search

If you are looking for an au pair insurance for another country, we recommend to shop around on the internet.
